Market analysis

Softened Breaker and Rondache spare ToB, new Cane hits claws. This blog is a walk-back, not a fresh threat, and that's the trade. The TzHaar-Ket Breaker is being deliberately detuned so it no longer outperforms the Scythe of Vitur against Slash-weak content, its range is confirmed at just one tile instead of three, and the size-scaling bonus is cut. On the shield side, Jagex is floating either lowering the Rondache's Strength bonus or stripping it entirely and re-attaching the Avernic Defender's bonus via 'avernic studs,' which directly targets the community fear that Theatre of Blood's reward tier was about to get gutted. In the same breath, a brand new Magic spec weapon, the Gatekeeper's Cane, is pitched to compete head-on with Dragon Claws and the Zaryte Crossbow, introducing a fresh competitive threat that wasn't priced in before this post.

Nothing here is polled or live, so this is pure sentiment trading off a proposal blog, and the effect compounds as clarity increases rather than decaying immediately. The initial June 16 blog triggered fear-based selling of Scythe, Avernic hilt, spirit shields and sigils; this follow-up partially reverses that logic, so expect a relief bounce in those items over the next few days as short-term sellers cover. That bounce is capped because none of the mitigations are locked, Jagex explicitly says they're 'not dead-set' on an approach, so conviction stays low until a formal poll blog. The Dragon Claws and Zaryte Crossbow leg down is newer information and hasn't fully priced yet, so that pressure builds from here rather than fading, and it will keep building until the raid actually ships months from now.

Flippers who front-ran the ToB devaluation narrative by dumping Avernic hilt, spirit shields, sigils and Scythes are the natural buyers now, betting that the studs-attachment idea or a Rondache Strength nerf preserves those items' value. PvM veterans who use the Scythe specifically against Slash-weak bosses are less likely to sell into weakness given the Breaker's reroll nerf confirms it won't replace that niche. On the other side, speculative sellers are starting to appear in Dragon Claws and Zaryte Crossbow order books, players hedging against the Cane eating into their spec-swap use-cases once it ships, alongside existing Ascension Crossbow pressure on the Zaryte. Casual mid-tier accounts holding these BiS specs for 'eventual' content are the ones most likely to trim now rather than wait.

The shelving of the Hybrid Armour set is a clean non-event for Bandos, Oathplate, Virtus or Ancestral Robes, since the thing that would have pressured them is now confirmed dead, so no call is warranted there. The Ascension Crossbows and Gatekeeper's Cane themselves aren't tradeable yet since neither exists in-game, so their own GE lines see zero direct action, all the pressure shows up in the incumbents they threaten. Noxious Halberd gets a genuine but narrow bump now that the Breaker's range is locked at one tile rather than three, removing it as a ranged-halberd competitor, but that edge is thin and could evaporate if future Ascension bolt effects (diamond, onyx) end up strong enough to cover multi-target ranged niches instead. Zeal, the proposed Piety overwrite, likely comes with some kind of tradeable unlock item down the line, but nothing is named yet so there's no ticker to trade against.

This read flips hard if the final poll blog locks in the avernic-studs attachment mechanic exactly as floated, that would fully reverse the Avernic Defender and spirit shield down-calls into flat or even mild upside since their value gets structurally protected rather than merely defended in a dev blog. It also flips if the Breaker's damage-reroll tuning gets walked back upward again before polling, which would reopen the Scythe threat. Watch for the next Fractured Archive polling blog as the trigger point, since this is where floating ideas become locked numbers that the market can actually underwrite.
