Market analysis
Marlin recovers while fresh Venator loot floods the GE. The desk's single biggest read is a split market: Marlin gets scarcer and Venator drops get a lot more common on the open market at the same time. The Sailing nerf kills the AFK boat-riding loophole that was pumping Marlin into the game, so supply at the source tightens hard from day one. Simultaneously, Venator teeth and fangs going tradeable dumps every banked stack from months of Maggot King and Venator kills straight onto the GE, and that stock has nowhere to go but down until a real sink appears. Both moves are supply shocks, just pointed in opposite directions.
The Marlin fix bites immediately: the 5-minute auto-disengage and per-player shoal tracking gut the passive multiplayer farm the moment the patch lands, so the flow of new Marlin drops off within hours, not days. Expect the low to be in already and a grind higher over the next one to two weeks as existing overstock gets bought up by flippers who saw this coming. Venator teeth and fangs run the opposite curve: the first 24 to 48 hours will see a dump from every player and Ironman who has been hoarding them as useless loot, crashing the initial listed price, before it stabilizes once alchemy or another sink sets a floor.
On Marlin, the buyers are GE flippers and AFK-averse skillers picking up cheap stock ahead of the recovery, while the sellers are the boat-riding abusers liquidating their pre-nerf haul before the mechanic dies. On the tarnished item side, the buyers are alchemists and bots chasing the newly juiced alch values, since tarnished weapons now alch close to Rune equivalents and tarnished jewellery matches Diamond, turning junk drops into real high alch margin plays. Sellers of raw tarnished loot who were previously vendoring or trashing it will now route it through the GE or alch it directly, tightening supply of the cheapest tarnished pieces and pushing buy prices up toward the new alch ceiling.
Crimson kisten and Elder Rupture don't get a call here: their drop rates were merely confirmed, not changed, so nothing about supply or demand actually moved even though the community is watching those prices settle. The Maggot King death fee reduction lowers risk cost per attempt but doesn't meaningfully change loot volume per hour, so it's a quality of life win with no real GE footprint. Blood shard's 1/5 superior rate was also just disclosed, not altered, so it stays off the board despite the temptation to react to the number itself.
This read flips if Jagex adds a dedicated sink for Venator teeth and fangs, such as a high alch bump or a crafting use, which would arrest the dump and turn it into a slower bleed instead of a crash. It also changes if the Sailing fix proves easy to route around with a new AFK exploit, in which case Marlin supply stays elevated and the recovery thesis stalls out.
Impacted items
- Marlin · rising. The AFK boat-riding loophole is dead thanks to the 5-minute auto-disengage and per-player shoal baiting, so the oversupply that crushed this price gets cut off at the source immediately. Expect a steady grind higher over one to two weeks as the market absorbs the last of the pre-nerf overstock. Flippers who bought the dip ahead of this patch are the natural sellers into the recovery.
- Venator fang · falling. Same mechanism as teeth: newly tradeable loot with months of banked supply behind it floods a market with essentially zero established demand. First-week price discovery will be brutal and skewed toward sellers dumping dead weight. No sink means no floor until further changes land.
